First Night

The classic choice is First Night, which has been a local tradition since 1975. This event was the first of its kind and has inspired similar events in cities across the nation. Over the course of the day, starting around noon, you can enjoy an array of free festivities in the Back Bay and Copley Square neighborhoods. Enjoy family activities, ice sculptures, fireworks, figure skating show, pyrotechnics, and more. There’s a special countdown in the center of Copley Square leading up to midnight, be there or be “square!”

Pro-tip: the ice sculptures are fantastic, and one of our favorite parts of the festivities!
